VASAB Session: Spatial Strategies supporting Green and Just Transition in European Macro-Regions

A territorial and spatial approach in macro-regional strategies (MRS) can contribute to guiding green, just and digital transition, adapted to the places, diversities and uniqueness of the regions. VASAB Long-Term Perspective supports EUSBSR (EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region)  by adding a territorial dimension to the efforts of the EU Green Deal to turn climate and environmental challenges into opportunities. Also, other MRS consider spatial perspectives and territorial scenarios to embed territorial evidence in policymaking and support climate actions.

The session will share experience and spatial perspectives across various MRS and discuss among participants how MRS cooperation supports green and digital transition and what spatial planning strategies should undertake to address challenges deriving from the EU Green Deal and to achieve the climate targets of the EU.
