Following a Call for Action to the Danube Youth Council (DYC)-Taskforce, it was decided that up to 50 % of the original Danube Youth Council members should gain the opportunity to prolong their mandate for a third and final year once.
The DYC’s primary objective is to provide the decision-making bodies in the Danube Region Strategy with advice and recommendations. Consequently, extending the mandate for another year is a beneficial measure for the implementation of the EUSDR.
This decision was supported by the importance of knowledge transfer and members’ continuity in working within the Danube Region Strategy Priority Areas.
To ensure an efficient and valuable membership, a good understanding of the Danube Regional Strategy is required. Considering the complexity and multi-layered governance with various stakeholders, structures and topics, DYC members must acquire the necessary knowledge to take an active part in the EUSDR implementation. Therefore, it is important that the new generation of DYC members would benefit from the experience of the current council members. In addition, the experience and connections gained through DYC members’ involvement in various projects, priority areas and events, are important factors that actively shape youth participation in the Danube Region. To preserve these elements and ensure that the next generations of DYC members can benefit from them, a smooth transition for mentoring the new generation is required.
Moreover, the continuity of the work is important, based on the sustainable working relationships that have already been established. With an extension of the mandate, ensuring a smooth continuation of the activities within the Priority Areas would be possible. This also provides the DYC with the opportunity to introduce new members to the work and the EUSDR stakeholders.
Based on an internal survey, the following members have expressed their interest in continuing their work in the Danube Regional Strategy as part of the DYC for a third year:
