My name is Matej Jirkal, I am a 28 years old ecologist. I live in small town Hlohovec, which is situated on river Váh in Slovakia. Being a fisherman guided me to study environmental sciences and ecology at the University of Constantine the Philosopher in Nitra. After graduation I decided to work for the Water Research Institute in Bratislava, where my field of work is river morphology and river protection. From participation in various projects in the Danube basin I know that policy making and cooperation is key in such a diversified region. Therefore I will be joining Priority Area 5 – Environmental Risks and Priority Area 6 – Biodiversity. I am thrilled for the opportunity to be part of this group and looking forward to what it brings.
