JRC Events and Studies Relevant for EUSDR Stakeholders!

The European Commission’s Joint Research Centre recently announced a variety of upcoming events and recordings of past events, respectively, as well as recent publications. A number of these events and studies are also of relevance to Priority Areas of the Danube Region Strategy!

 

 

Study relevant for EUSDR Priority Area PA 2
The European bioeconomy in 2050: 4 foresight scenarios published in the EC’s Strategic Foresight Report

 

The Joint Research Centre recently published a study presenting four alternative scenarios for the EU bioeconomy in 2050.

58th ESReDA Seminar – Using Knowledge to Manage Risks and Threats: Practices and Challenges

 

The seminar will be a forum for participants to discuss theories, concepts, and experiences of enhancing the use of knowledge for better risk management and governance. It will bring together researchers, practitioners, specialists, and decision-makers to discuss strategies and practical experiences. Registration is open until 15th May.

Study relevant for EUSDR Priority Area 6
New report shows there are still pristine forests in Europe and calls for their mapping and strict protection

 

About 4.9 million hectares of the EU forests are ‘primary’ or ‘old-growth’, according to a new JRC report.

 

This report contributes to the EU commitment made in the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030  to define, map, monitor and strictly protect all the EU’s remaining primary and old-growth forests. It is a compilation of existing mapping exercises by various researchers and organisations, and statistical information reported by the Member States.

Joint JRC-CoR webinar on smart specialisation and the recover

 

On 15th April, the JRC and the European Committee of the Regions held a joint webinar to explore how Smart Specialisation can be an effective tool to help territories recover from the coronavirus pandemic and discover new opportunities for more sustainable and inclusive economies.

 

The event conclusions contribute to identifying challenges in the EU’s innovation system and providing adequate policy responses.

Commission launches interactive tool to monitor and anticipate demographic change in the EU

 

The Commission has launched an EU ‘Atlas of Demography’ – an interactive online tool to visualise, monitor and anticipate demographic change in the European Union, which was developed by the Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC).
