EWRC: Tourism recovery through cooperation

Register now for this workshop on tourism recovery in the wake of COVID-19,  organised by the Thematic Steering Groups of all four macro-regional strategies, DG REGIO and Interact!

Starting with an introduction from DG REGIO representatives, this session will focus on how cooperation tackled the sustainability of tourism businesses, destinations, and communities in a harmonized way. Before the crisis, EU tourism accounted for 10% of EU GDP and 12% of EU employment (27+ million jobs). The impact of the pandemic destabilised the whole tourism industry at EU level.

Speakers from DG TRAN and OECD will present the impact and challenges that EU tourism industry is facing, an unprecedented reduction in international arrivals, aggravated by a massive drop in intra-EU and domestic tourism (representing 87% of tourist arrivals). Suspension of tourism activities due to confinement measures causes acute problems.

At the end, speakers from DG GROW, MRS coordinators, sector experts, UNTWO, and Routes4U project will provide an overview of the key EU policy actions and national, regional, or local actions already taken with a focus on cooperation examples.
