Follow-up on the 10th EUSDR Annual Forum

© Slovak EUSDR Presidency

On 26-27 October 2021 EUSDR stakeholders celebrated the 10th Annual Forum of the Danube Region Strategy in Bratislava and online. The Slovak EUSDR Presidency dedicated the event to the themes of its chairmanship held throughout 2021, namely on the one hand, climate change and protection of biodiversity and, on the other hand, digitalisation and innovation ecosystems. Under these headlines, a full session was dedicated to initiatives and projects of EUSDR Priority Area 6 – Biodiversity, Landscapes and the Quality of Air & Soils, the World Wide Fund for Nature, the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic, the Institute of Applied Ecology Bratislava as well as DG MARE/European Commission. Another session focused on projects supporting innovation processes in the Danube Region, such as Danube Alliance for SME Competitiveness, Innovation Express 2021, CINEMA, Restart_4Danube, Women in Business and several projects of the Slovak Centre of Scientific and Technical Information.

From a governance perspective, the focus of the 10th EUSDR Annual Forum lay on the support of youth within the Danube Region Strategy and across the Danube Region itself as well as on strengthened cooperation with non-EU member states. Furthermore, the Interreg Danube Transnational Programme held its Annual Event in the framework of the Forum.

or you may watch the recordings of the sessions in the online archive of the event!

We congratulate the Slovak EUSDR Presidency on successfully strengthening cooperation of stakeholders involved in the implementation of the Strategy by

  • initiating the establishment of a Danube Youth Council and a Danube Network of Youth Organisations,
  • supporting the Ukrainian National Coordination in preparing the first EUSDR Presidency of a non-EU member state and
  • successfully continuing EUSDR embedding (as initiated by the previous Croatian EUSDR Presidency) through establishing the network of ERDF/CF managing authorities and IPA/NDICI programming authorities in the Danube Region.
Welcome to the Ukrainian EUSDR Presidency!

On the occasion of the 10th EUSDR Annual Forum, the National Coordination of the Slovak Republic handed over the EUSDR chairmanship, represented by the EUSDR steering wheel, to the National Coordination of Ukraine. Taking on the chairmanship of the Strategy on 1 November 2021, the Ukrainian representatives expressed their commitment to support cooperation within the Danube Region: “We have a lot to give and we have a lot to share”. The thematic priorities of the Ukrainian EUSDR Presidency are sustainable development of the Danube Region through decarbonisation and economic transformation (environmentally friendly transport, TEN-T network, multi- and intermodal transportation) and the development of human capital and labour markets (quality and adaptation of education, inclusion and integration of vulnerable groups into the labour market, increasing employment). We welcome the Ukrainian EUSDR Presidency and look forward to joint efforts in bringing the Strategy forward under the Ukrainian lead.

The overviews were complemented by the contents of the final individual regulations of the centrally managed EU programmes and the IPA III and NDICI for non-EU countries were aligned with the EUSDR actions and shortlisted strategic topics.

The harmonised Interreg brand provides greater visibility for Interreg at all levels and towards the widest audience, demonstrating that Interreg makes a difference both locally and at European level, supporting the provision of largescale evidence that cooperation in Europe brings people closer, makes economies stronger and helps to preserve our environment better.
