The end of the year brings both great and tangible results from the Slovenian EUSDR Presidency 2023 and a committed and encouraging agenda for the Austrian EUSDR Presidency 2024.

Slovenian EUSDR Presidency. Achievements - at a glance! |
| |
- Empowering countries and regions for stronger involvement in the EUSDR, a guide aimed at facilitating active involvement in the implementation of the EUSDR. The guidelines for the future work of EUSDR Presidencies, National Coordinators (NCs), Priority Area Coordinators (PACs) and the Danube Strategy Point (DSP) include recommendation on EUSDR visibility at local and national level, on funding for implementation, on political and stakeholder involvement. As a result, the Rules of Procedure for National Coordinators and Rules of Procedure for Priority Area Coordinators as well as the EUSDR Governance Architecture Paper were revised.
- Giving a voice to the young generation, members of the Danube Youth Council (DYC) have been involved in a year-long campaign to have their say on the topic they feel passionate about – brain drain and talent development in the Danube Region. To secure the long-term perspective and future work of the DYC, the work programme and financing framework for the DYC was endorsed.

- Keeping funding of EUSDR priorities as a top priority, a Guidance Paper on Embedding highlighted concrete steps from the programming to the implementation phase and towards successful funding of EUSDR priorities with special focus on embedding in non-EU countries, cross-cooperation between macro-regional strategies and cross-cooperation between the Priority Areas.

- 12th edition of the EUSDR Annual Forum, the most important event of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region was organised in Brdo pri Kranju (Slovenia) on 24 and 25 October 2023 and offered a real and actual perspective of the challenges that the Danube Region faces. Ministers responsible for the implementation of the EUSDR and ambassadors from the 14 countries joined the Ministerial Meeting preceding the Forum and signed a Joint Declaration, in which they appreciate the work and the efforts made by the stakeholders at a time when the EUSDR has entered its second decade of existence. They also confirmed their political engagement and continuation of rallying their efforts to strengthen cooperation within the EUSDR, as well as to provide political guidelines for further development of the Strategy, unlocking the full potential of the Danube Region. - Forecasting the future knowledge-driven society, a thematic conference on Knowledge-driven society and professions of the future gave an insight into what society and the economy in the Danube Region could look like in 2040. Read more
- Chat with the Presidency: A successful format for exchange and discussions, an initiative of the Slovenian EUSDR Presidency appreciated as very productive by the participants, this informal meeting format allowed the EUSDR core stakeholders to discuss about ways of improving Steering Groups Meeting participation, the involvement of businesses and SMEs into EUSDR, and the role of the EUSDR as a tool of cooperation in solving the newly emerged challenges that the EUSDR member states face.

Austrian EUSDR Presidency. Programme & priorities – an outlook! |

Under the slogan “Shaping Transformation, Creating Opportunities: A Prosperous, Resilient and Secure Danube Region”, Austria has taken over the EUSDR Presidency and focuses on the following three thematic priorities:
- Contributing to Stability and Security, and a clear European Perspective for the whole Danube Region;
- Fostering Innovation, Skills and Business Opportunities in the Danube Region;
- Enhancing the Danube Region Ecosystem, Water and Green Transition Management.
Across all these priorities, Austria will pursue the participation and involvement of youth, civil society and regional and local stakeholders.
Furthermore, the Austrian EUSDR Presidency will focus on the following three institutional and governance objectives:
- Strengthening political commitment and broad ownership of EUSDR, by involving Danube Region stakeholders in a comprehensive way;
- Continuing joint efforts to enable tangible funding opportunities;
- Illustrating the clear added value of the EUSDR at local, regional, national and European levels and ensure visibility, i.a. by highlighting Danube Strategy Flagships and Danube Region Programme (DRP) projects.

New funding opportunity within the Danube Region Programme open - from 27 November 2023 until 29 March 2024. The EUSDR Seed money facility (SMF) shall serve as a tool for kick-starting the development of projects in line with the 12 Priority Areas of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region. Proposals submitted under the 2nd SMF call shall be aligned to at least one EUSDR Priority Area and shall clearly address the EUSDR Action Plan and targets. Paving the way to establish the Danube Youth Organisations Network (DYON) - 47 youth organisations and associations expressed their interest in becoming part of the DYON and the first meeting of the network took place on 7 December 2023. Participants found out about the EUSDR and youth involvement in the implementation of the Strategy, and they had the opportunity to exchange ideas for the future of the DYON. The topics approached during the first online meeting included mental health, digitalisation, employment, sustainable development, education, social inclusion, and so many others topics relevant for the young generations. Meeting on Governance – working together on better governed EUSDR. On 20 November 2023, the Austrian EUSDR Presidency and the Danube Strategy Point (DSP) organised a first online Task Force meeting for EUSDR National Coordinators (NCs) and Priority Area Coordinators (PACs) on the EUSDR Governance Development. The exchange provided a framework for an open discussion on ideas and challenges among the EUSDR core stakeholders that followed the talks of the revision of the EUSDR Governance Architecture Paper.
